Abstract

1,032,678. Rollers; securing rolls on shafts. SCHLOEMANN A.G. Jan. 31, 1964 [Jan. 31, 1963], No. 4137/64. Heading B3M. [Also in Division F2] A fabricated roll, for rolling metals, comprises a replaceable roll shell 3 sandwiched between separate roll journals 2, 4 on a clamping bolt 1, which bolt may be stretched by hydraulic means to permit easy tightening, or loosening, of the roll assembly clamping member. As shown, the roll shell 3 and journals 2, 4 are clamped against a head 1b of the bolt 1 which is initially stretched by hydraulic pressure supplied to a piston 9 in a collar 8, fast with a screwed ring 7 on the end of the bolt 1, the piston 9 thrusting through collars 10, 5 to clamp the assembly and stretch the bolt prior to tightening a clamping nut 6. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the headed clamping bolt passes through the roll assembly and screws into one of the journals which is formed at its roll shell clamping face with a piston arranged to hydraulically thrust through an inner spacer against the bolt head to stretch the bolt, a wedge member in a slot in the bolt head being tightened against a collar seating against the end of the second roll journal, spigoted on the bolt head, to clamp and retain the assembly on release of the hydraulic pressure.
