Abstract
1,032,285. Typewriters etc.; feeding webs. INTERNATIONAL AERADIO Ltd. May 27, 1964 [March 8, 1963], No. 9262/63. Headings B6B and B6F. In a teleprinter or like machine having an axially movable paper carriage and an axiallyfixed spool 3 upon which paper leaving the carriage is wound, the means guiding the paper to the spool 3 includes two members 5, 8, the member 5 being capable of rocking or tilting to allow of lateral movement of the web as the carriage moves. The member 8 comprises a sleeve slidable axially on a rod 70. The ends of the rod member 5 are mounted in pivoted brackets 7, being pressed downwardly by springs 6 which permit tilting of the rod 5. From the sleeve 8 to the spool 3 the paper passes over a fixed rod 11, a rod 12 carried by fixed arms 13 and a rod 14 carried by arms 15 pivoted about the axis of the spool. When paper is fed out of the machine, the arms 15 drop and through a cam 20, Fig. 2 (not shown), actuate a microswitch 22 to cause operation of a motor 18 driving the spool. As the slack is taken up, the arms 15 rise and the microswitch 22 opens to cause the motor 18 to stop. If the paper breaks or becomes exhausted, the arms 15 drop to a position which operates a second microswitch 21 to stop the motor. In a modification, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), the paper passes over a fixed rod 31 between the rod 5 and the sleeve 8, and the ends of the rod 10 carrying the sleeve 8 are supported by springs 30 to permit tilting. To lessen friction, the rods 5, 10 and sleeve 8 are covered with poly-tetra-fluoroethylene.
