1,031,897. Stabilizing ships. H. D. FANSHAWE. Nov. 30, 1964 [Nov. 28, 1963], No. 47143/63. Heading B7M. A stabilizing apparatus for a ship incorporating two liquid-holding means 1, 2 normally on the same level, each liquid-holding means consisting of a series of closed liquid-holding compartments 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D; 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D all on the same level and pressurized in ascending steps of pressure, has means comprising ducts 3A, 3B, 3C, 3D, a valve device 5 having passages 5A, 5B, 5C, 5D, 5E and duets 4A, 4B, 4C, 4D for connecting each compartment (1B, 1C, 1D) except the compartment (1A) at lowest pressure of one selected liquid-holding means (1) at a point below its minimum liquid level to the compartment (2A, 2B, 2C) of the other liquid-holding means, (2) pressurized to the next lower step of pressure at a point below its minimum liquid level, and a pump 12 having its inlet connectible to said compartment (1A) at lowest pressure of said selected liquidholding means (1) and its discharge cannectible (via duct 11) to the compartment (2D) at highest pressure of said other liquid-holding means (2), corresponding compartments of the two liquid-holding means at the same pressure being interconnected (via pipes 13A, 13B, 13C, 13D) at points above the maximum liquid level 14 in the compartments. The valve device 5 has its ganged members 6 and 7 operated by cylinders 8 and 9 under the control of a rollsensing device 10.
