1,031,847. Change-speed control. BELTOMATIC PATENTVERWERTUNGS - ANSTALT. Aug. 1, 1963 [Aug. 7, 1962], No. 30534/63. Heading F2D. An external synchronizer for a vehicle change-speed gear comprises circular magnets 60, 61 rotated by shafts 59, 58, at speeds respectively proportional to those of the gearbox layshaft and the engine, within eddy current speedometer cups 62, 63 loaded by spiral springs 64, 65 and provided with arms 66, 67 carrying electrical contacts 66a, 67a which, at synchronism, engage to furnish a signal which may energize a solenoid 69, Fig. 2 (not shown), to release a ball detent 35 and thus free a gear selector rod 29. Alternatively the signal may de-energize the solenoid which normally holds the rod engaged. In the case of an automatic change-speed gear the open state of contacts 66a, 67a may interrupt or inhibit the transmission of the control signal initiating gear shift.
