Abstract

1,031,646. Centrifugal blowers. WATKINS & WATSON Ltd., and F. E. N. DUCKER. Sept. 28, 1964 [Sept. 26, 1963], No. 37998/63. Heading F1C. An air blower and its electric driving motor are mounted within a sound-proofed box having an air inlet and an air delivery connection for the blowers, and the motor is also enclosed in an auxiliary casing having an air inlet thereto fed from the blower and an outlet to atmosphere, the air from the delivery connection by-passing the auxiliary casing.The blower 10 for supplying air to an organ, is suspended on springs 12 in a wooden box 13 lined with sound-absorbing material. To prevent heat developed by the driving motor 11 from heating the air flowing into the delivery connection 15, the motor is further enclosed in an auxiliary casing 17 attached to the blower casing and is cooled by air bled from the blower via radial vanes 20 and ports 18, the cooling air being discharged to atmosphere through a flexible pipe 19. The blower draws in air through a baffled inlet 14 and discharges it through a flexible pipe 16 and, it may be, a slide valve, to the connection 15. the pipes 16 19 are of thick-walled foam or sponge material of the kind in which the cells communicate, to prevent transmission of noise. Preferably, the outer skin of this material is sealed to prevent percolation of air.
