Abstract

1,031,408. Winches. PUSNES MEK. VERKSTED A/S. Nov. 3, 1964 [Nov. 7, 1963], No. 44838/64. Heading B8B. A mooring and warping arrangement for a ship comprises a hawser T wound around two parallel grooved drums 5, which may be of conical formation, driven through variable gearing from a winch shaft, for heaving in, and then passes on to a storage drum 1 driven by a constant torque fluid engine in a single direction independent of the speed or direction of the drums 5, the engine fluid being supplied at constant pressure or any excess fluid passing out of an overflow valve. The hawser 1 is fed on to the storage drum by a spooling arm, Fig. 4 (not shown), which incorporates a split bearing guiding the hawser thereinto enabling the eye on the end of the hawser to be initially passed therethrough. A roller is pressed against the periphery of one of the drums 5 to engage the hawser when it is being payed out to prevent accumulation thereof underneath the drums 5. A fluid-driven pulley 12, Fig. 1 (not shown), adjacent a fairlead aids the paying out of the hawser.
