Abstract

1,030,442. Photographic processing solution. EASTMAN KODAK CO. Jan 25, 1963 [Jan. 29,1962], No. 3162/63. Heading G2C. A combined developer and fixer solution comprises an alkali, a silver halide developer, a thiosulphate present in a concentration of at least one-third of a gram-mole per litre and a heterocyclic compound containing a mercapto group which forms with the silver sludge produced on development substances which are soluble in the solution. Specified heterocyclic compounds are 1-phenyl-5-mercaptotetrazole, 2-mercapto-5-ohydroxyphenyl or 5-cyclohexyl-1, 3, 4 rhiadiazole, 2-mercapto- 5-phenyl, -o-tolyl, or-m-or-p-nitrophenyl-1, 3, 4 oxadiazole and 2-benoxazole thiol. The developer may be a 3-pyrazolidone (see Specification 1,023,701) which may be partly or wholly incorporated in the emulsion if another developer is present in the solution. A hydroxylamine of formula R-NCH 2 - CH 2 - OH R 1 where R and R 1 are hydrogen, alkyl or hydroxyalkyl with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, may be added to the solution as an accelerator.
