Abstract

1,029,922. Fuel elements. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Feb. 10, 1965 [Feb. 18, 1964], No. 5813/65. Heading G6C. The end grid 3 of a cluster-type fuel element is secured to a jacket 1, of graphite, for instance, surrounding the fuel pencils of the cluster by means of a clamping collar 10 having protuberances 12, slightly frusto-conical in shape, which engage with apertures 9 in a flange 7 surrounding the grid 3 and with corresponding apertures in an end 8 of reduced diameter of the jacket 1, the end 8 being a sliding fit within the flange 7. The clamping collar 10 is in the form of a thin metal band or strip 11, the ends of which are welded together after assembly of the fuel element so that the jacket 1 and the grid 3 are fixed relative to one another.
