Abstract

1,026,898. Rollers. SVENSKA FLAKTFABRIKEN A.B. March 12, 1965 [March 20, 1964], No. 10669/65. Heading F2U. [Also in Division F1] A roller is formed as a pump for blowing air through a web passing thereover in order to dry it or in order to create a sub-pressure in order to remove dust from the web or cause the web to adhere to the roller. The roller is formed with an outer cylinder 3 (Fig. 1, not shown) which may be formed by a perforated or honeycomb panel shell or be comprised by rods 9 clamped between end plates 6 of the roller, and an eccentric inner cylinder 4 with partitions between the inner and outer cylinders to form a pump. The eccentricity of the inner cylinder may be adjustable. Figs. 2 and 5 (not shown) show constructions in which the partitions are formed by radially slidable vanes 12, 14 mounted in one cylinder and spring urged into contact with the other cylinder. Fig. 3 (not shown) shows a construction having a skeleton roller formed by rods 9 in which the partitions are made of flexible material or made as jointed elements 10 which are pivotally secured to the rods 9 and inner cylinder 4. Fig. 4 (not shown) shows an embodiment having a skeleton outer roller formed by rods 9 and an inner cylinder 4 carrying resilient partitions 11 bearing against the rods 9. A duct 21 may be provided for the supply or exhaust of air to or from the roller which duct is adjacent the part of the periphery of the roller not covered by the web. The ends of the outer cylinder may be equipped with axially displaceable shielding elements for that part of the length of the roller not covered by the web or to partially shield the web to correct its moisture profile.
