Abstract

1,026,707. Electro-medical apparatus. D. J. GAFFNEY. Jan. 13, 1965 [Nov. 22, 1964], No. 46188/63. Heading A5R. An appliance for the treatment of the plantar reflex comprises two pairs of electrodes E<SP>1</SP>, E<SP>2</SP> hingedly connected at F in recesses of hollow non conducting base A so that the electrodes E<SP>1</SP>, E<SP>2</SP> are flush with the upper surface of the base and so that in use, the electrodes E<SP>1</SP>, E<SP>2</SP> extend respectively under the transverse arch and heel of the associated foot. The part of the base which is slotted at B to form handle C is reduced in height with respect to part D. Each electrode has a lug L carrying a terminal M for connection to the energizing coil. The appliance may be supported in a tilted position by a strut hingedly connected to the base. The appliance may be laid in a footbath containing warm water or it may be placed on the floor and current conducted to the patient's feet through saline-moistened lint pads overlying the electrodes. The base may be made of polyester resin reinforced with glass fibre and the electrodes made of electro plated steel.
