Abstract

1,026,232. Breech mechanisms. RHEINMETALL G.m.b.H. Oct. 31, 1962 [Oct. 31, 1961], No. 41224/62. Heading F3C. In order to reduce the rebound energy of the breech mechanism of an automatic firearm, a lever 11 is pivotally mounted on the breech block and has one end in contact with a resiliently loaded control mass 7 slidably mounted on the breech block. The arrangement is such that when the breech mechanism moves to the closed position, the lever imparts to the central mass 7 a component of motion in a direction opposite to that of the breech block. In one form, Figs. 1-4 (not shown), the breech block is of multi-part form, the parts 1, 2 being locked together in the closed position by the lever 11, but in another embodiment, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), the single-part breech block 23 is locked to the breech casing in the closed position by the lever 11.
