Apparatus for wet treatment of textile materials comprises means for producing a stream of fluid through the material and means for accelerating or reinforcing the flow of the fluid. The stream of fluid may be produced by a pumping device e.g. a paddle wheel, a piston or a moving membrane and the stream preferably passes through the material in a direction perpendicular to the direction of movement of the material. In Fig. 1 (not shown) a nozzle 1, through which treating fluid is discharged is mounted within a rotating sieve drum, the material to be treated passing between this drum and a backing drum. In Fig. 2 a moving part 6 is oscillated by lever 9 about a stationary part 5 and by means of valve traps 7, 8 fluid is forced through the material. In a further embodiment material is fed between two pairs of feed rolls with a wetting nozzle in the space between them and a supporting plate placed opposite the nozzle. In a modification of this arrangement (Fig. 3a not shown), wetting nozzles are arranged alternatively above and below the material, between the roller pairs. In Fig. 4 (not shown) several pairs of wetting rollers are disposed in a processing bath the material being fed through the bath and between the rollers of each pair. The pressure between the rollers is preferably adjustable.
