Abstract
1,024,701. Rear-viewing mirrors. DESMO Ltd. March 28, 1962 [March 28, 1961], No. 11238/61. Heading B7J. A rear-viewing mirror for use on a vehicle which may tow a caravan comprises a mirror head 4, Fig. 1, universally mounted at 8 at one end of a supporting arm 5 whose other end has a flat mounting base 11 securable to the wing of the vehicle, the arm 5 being articulated intermediate its ends to thereby provide a stem portion 7 and an extension portion 6, the articulation axis, when the mirror is mounted on the vehicle, being substantially at right angles to the mirror surface and also being laterally offset from the base 11, whereby the portion 6 may be moved angularly relative to the portion 7 through two right-angles or more. The articulated joint is described with reference to Fig. 3 (not shown), the stem 7 having a boss 10 provided with a D-shaped cross-section aperture 13 communicating with circular recesses 15 and knurled conical recesses 14. The portion 6 has a boss 9 with a knurled conical surface 16 to engage either one of the recesses 14. The boss also has a circular cross-section aperture 18 and a polygonal recess 17 to receive the polygon head 21 on a bolt 19 having a shank portion of D-shape cross-section, which is threaded and engageable by a nut 20. When the arm position 6 is not required, the head 4 may be universally connected to the boss 10. If desired, the base may be connected to the vehicle by a known " come-back " joint.
