Abstract

1,024,405. Inserting stabilizing sheets between stacks of newspapers. BONNIERFORETAGEN A.B. Sept. 8, 1964 [Sept. 10, 1963], No. 36767/64. Heading B8C. After several piles of newspapers 14, 15, 16, 17 (Fig. 1) have been deposited by hinged doors 12 on to a stepwise reciprocating loading pallet 10, a stabilizing sheet 18 is conveyed from a magazine 19 to a support 43 which is then lowered to place the sheet on the piles. In the form shown, the lowermost stabilizing sheet 18 is fed singly from a stack by dogs 29, 30 (Fig. 2, not shown) through a slot in the front wall of the magazine whilst the rest of the stack is supported by rollers, 32, 33. Preferably the support is in the form of arms 38, 39 which consist of horizontal portions 40, 41 and side portions 42, 43. The arms 38, 39 are kept horizontal whilst they are lowered from the position shown in full lines in Fig. 4 (not shown) to the position shown in dotted lines. On reaching the lower position an upward movement is imparted to the arms 38, 39 so that a fixed stop-member 45 presses downwards on the sheet resulting in the carrier rails 40, 41 being swung down to deposit the sheet on the piles of paper. The drive for the lowering of the arms is provided by an electric motor or a reciprocating pneumatic piston.
