Abstract

1,024,303. Cartons. A. WEISS. June 8, 1962 [June 15, 1961], No. 21705/61. Heading B8P. A cardboard carton having a hinged lid is formed from a single blank, shown in Fig. 6, the blank being cut along a line C and having a fold line 26. Simultaneously with the cutting along line C the blank is indented along line 22 to form a neck portion 23 which is integral with the body walls 1-4. In another form the cut C is straight and extends across the full width of the blank to form a separate lid portion. In both forms the lid and body portions are overlapped with the line C of the lid abutting the indentation 22. The edge of the lid may be bent to engage in the indentation 22 (Fig. 8, not shown). The overlapping lid and body portions are tubed in the usual way, glue tabs 5, 6, 16 being secured to the opposite edge of the blank. In one form, the lid is opened by breaking along a line of perforations 27; two partly cut circles may replace the line 27. The lid hinges about a line 14 but in the form shown in Fig. 6 the blank is folded along the line 26 so that the line 14 is adjacent the indentation 22b. To provide a flat top and bottom to the carton, to facilitate stacking, one of each of the top and bottom forming panels is provided with a step to accommodate the thickness of the other panel. The blank may be coated with polythene and is secured at the appropriate places by the application of heat-glue not being necessary.
