Abstract

102,426. King, A. A. March 29, 1916. Battery lamps.-A ball switch 1 breaks the circuit when the lamp is held in an upward direction. The ball 1, which is of metal, is enclosed in a metal tube 2 within an insulating sheath 5 between the two cells. The tube 2 is shorter than the sheath 5 and has a metal flange 6 which contacts with the pole 7 of the battery 4 and also prevents the tube 2 from coming into contact with the battery 3. When the lamp is tilted downwards, the ball 1 rolls into contact with the battery 3, so that the circuit may be closed by the usual switch 8. The tube 2 mav be of conical or cylindrical shape, the latter form allowing the lamp to be raised to an horizontal' position before the circuit is broken. According to the Provisional Specification, the ball switch may be fitted between the lamp socket and the battery.
