Abstract

1,024,243. Nuclear power plant. P. LEGRAND. Jan. 16, 1963 [Jan. 19, 1963], No. 1976/63. Heading G6C. In a nuclear reactor power plant, a gascooled reactor and a steam generating and superheating heat exchanger are mounted together inside a concrete pressure vessel. The exchanger is located either beneath or surrounding the reactor, the axes of the reactor and exchanger are aligned and the two are separated by a radiation screening partition. The heat exchanger tubes are vertical and may be supported at their lower ends on roller races to permit thermal dimension changes. Both upper and lower ends of the heat exchanger tubes are accessible for maintenance purposes and a faulty tube is isolated at both ends. The tubes thus isolated remain in position and an additional number of tubes are provided in each exchanger for this purpose.
