Abstract

1,024,078. Measuring temperature electrically. E. VON SELVE and G. VON SELVE, [trading as SCHWEIZERISCHE METALLWERKE SELVE & CO.]. May 19, 1964 [May 21, 1963], No. 20544/64. Heading G1N. A thermocouple 1 and a battery 2 are connected in a self-balancing potentiometer bridge circuit, the variable resistance arms 4 of which are arranged around the circumference of a disc 3, rotated by a potentiometer motor 10, the disc 3 carrying on it a non-linear temperature scale to compensate for the non-linearity of the thermocouple; and an optical projection system is used with the disc to give, on a screen, a digital reading of the temperature. The temperature scale may be alternatively carried on a film (22 Fig. 5 not shown) driven by the motor and through which the light beam is focused, or on a metal band. The error detector 9 and amplifier 19 which drive the potentiometer motor 10 may be entirely D.C.; or the detector 9 may convert D.C. to A.C., the amplifier and motor then operating on A.C.
