Abstract

1,023,885. Magnetic tape recording heads. W. YOUNG. Dec. 9, 1964 [Sept. 13, 1963], No. 36137/63. Heading G5R. To prevent recording clicks due to starting up motors &c. in the tape feeding means, the recording head 1 has a pivoted guard member 9 covering the gap which holds the tape away from it. Since the pressure pad (not shown) holds the tape against the guard, starting the tape feed retracts the guard 9 and normal recording proceeds. In a modification (not detailed) the guard plate may be flat and sliding in guides. For a clickless stop, the guard 9 may be moved back manually into operative position before stopping the tape-feed.
