Abstract
1,023,402. Forcing liquid by gaseous pressure. A. T. JUNIPER Ltd. Feb. 19, 1965 [Feb. 29, 1964], No. 8575/64. Heading FIR. In apparatus for supplying washing liquid under pressure to the compressor blades of a gas turbine engine, a container 10 having a closable aperture 15 for the introduction of washing liquid and a container 11 for normally holding air under pressure, supplied by a doubleacting hand pump 27 or by an engine compressor, are mounted on a wheeled trolley 12, 13, 14. The upper portions of the containers are connected by pipes to equalize the pressures therein. A liquid outlet from container 10, connected to dip tube 18, is joined by a pipe to a filter the outlet of which is connected by a flexible hose to a spray ring. The hand pump 27 is detachably connected to an air inlet valve associated with a relief valve on the container 11. Flexible pipes 43 and 44, respectively, are connected at one of their ends to an air inlet on container 10 and the outlet of an air filter 32, connected to an air outlet 30 from the container 11, and at their opposite ends to a dual-port adaptor 45 designed for connection with the engine compressor. The compressor supplies air to the container 10 and excess air is returned through the filter 32 to the compressor. A blanking-off plate 46 is provided for the adaptor 45 when not connected to the compressor. Drain plugs are provided for each container and a bleed valve 29 and a pressure gauge are mounted on container 11. A foot pump may be used in place of hand pump 27. The bottoms of the containers are interconnected by pipes having shut-off valves which are normally closed but may be opened when both containers are to contain washing liquid. The containers may be of welded steel internally tinned to resist corrosion.
