Abstract
1,023,197. Variably crimped yarn. E. H. SHATTACK, J. N. HALL and W. A. ELLSWORTH. Jan. 25,1965 [Jan. 23,1964|, No. 3229/65. Headings D1D, D1F and D1W. A variably bulked yarn is produced in a stuffer box by periodically varying the back pressure of the mass of crimped yarn on the incoming yarn. As shown yarn from cop 56 passes through tension device 57 carrying an adjusting weight 58, and through trumpet 59, to feed rollers 16,17 of the stuffer box, which is formed by tube 30 axially movable in tube 12 and normally resting on shoulder 33 of tube 12. Tube 12 is adjustably clamped by nut 13 in sleeve 11 of block 10 having heating elements 40. The height of the core 39 of crimped yarn in tube 30 is maintained constant by means of actuating arm 37 and switch 36 controlling the drive of feed rollers 16, 17. Tube 30 is periodically raised to raise the crimped mass of yarn from rollers 16,17 by means of cam 49 pivoting bracket 34 which carries tube 30. Alternatively in Fig. 3 (not shown) a rotating crank causes an arm periodically to advance into the crimping chamber adjacent the feed rollers, to lift the mass of crimped yarn upwardly, and then to withdraw. In Figs. 4-6 (not shown) air under pressure is periodically supplied to the crimping chamber adjacent the feed rollers to raise the crimped mass or to at least reduce the pressure thereof on the incoming yarn. In Fig. 7 (not shown) cam-reciprocated rods are provided adjacent the feed rollers to lift periodically the crimped mass.
