Abstract

1,022,913. Lamps. STRUCTURAL ELECTRIC PRODUCTS CORPORATION. Feb. 14, 1964 [April 8, 1963], No. 6236/64. Heading F4R. [Also in Division H1] A light designed for installation in a surface, such as an airport runway, over which wheeled vehicles run, comprises a base portion 10 having a recess 12 therein opening out of the top of the base and a slot 14a, 14b extending transversely in at least one direction from the recess to the periphery of the base, at least one bore 17a extending from the recess to the bottom of the base and having an electrical contact 19 disposed therein, a detachable cover 30 over the recess, a box 37 secured in watertight engagement to the bottom of the cover and fitting into the recess, an elongated lamp 49 mounted in the box, electrical contact means 45 on the outside of the box engaging the contact 19, and at least one transparent window 38a in the box disposed opposite the end of the slot to project a low beam of light from the lamp. Preferably the window contains a removable lens 53. The unit comprising the cover and the box is secured to the base by two screws 36b so that in the event of a failure of the lamp a new unit can be quickly fitted and the old unit taken to the repair shop. The lamp 49 (see Division H1) has end caps 50 with contact blades 51 fitting between jaws connected to the contacts 45, and a disc cut-out 46 is provided to short-circuit the lamp if the filament burns out.
