Abstract

1,022,701. Riding saddles. G. A. WISE and E. DAVIS. March 23, 1962 [March 24, 1961], No. 10921/61. Heading A1M. A saddle tree comprises a cantle 3 and withers sides 1, 2 made of flexible wood and having at least one surface thereof covered by a sheet 6 of metal, the extremities of the withers sides being attached to an arch 9 and legs 10, 11 which have at least one common rigid metal member 12 or 13. The cantle and withers sides consist of a hickory layer 4 covered with a plurality of overlapping wooden laminations 5 and surmounted by an aluminium sheet 6, the grain of the wood in at least one of the layers being in the same direction as that of the cantle or sides. An additional aluminium sheet may be attached to the lower side of layer 4. The arch 9 is made of hickory and abuts the top of the extremities of the withers sides while aluminium lags 10, 11 abut the bottom thereof, the arch and legs being sandwiched by aluminium strips 12, 13. The arch and sides are connected together by means of aluminium plates 15, 16.
