Abstract
102,252. Lane, A. M. Nov. 18, 1915, [Convention date]. Stays.-Relates to stays for casement windows, doors, blinds, shutters, &c. The window &c. 6, Fig. 1, is grooved at the top to receive an extensible stay, which is pivoted at 11 near the end of the groove and at 10 to the top of the fixed framing 7. The distance of the pivot 10 from the hinge edge of tha window is somewhat greater than the thickness of the window. The extensible stay may comprise a telescopic arrangement of tubes 12, 13, Fig. 3, furnished with friction shoes 20 mounted in a transverse hole in the filling-piece 17 and acting against the interior surface of the tube 12. The outer tube may be provided with a bushing 16. The shoes may be pressed outwards by a helical spring 19. In modifications, the shoes are pressed outwards by flat spring arms. Fig. 6 shows a further modification in which two pairs of shoes 32 at right-angles are pressed outwards by a spring-pressed conical plug 33.
