Abstract
1,022,462. Photo-electric turbidity measurement. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGSG.m.b.H. Nov. 14, 1962 [Nov. 14, 1961], No. 43063/62. Heading G1A. An instrument for measuring atmospheric turbidity comprises two photo-electric detectors 13 and 16 in one housing and a light source 10 in another housing spaced from the first. A reference light beam passes from the source to the detector 13 through a mirror system. A second light beam of wide dispersion from source 10 is directed to pass through a region 14 of the atmosphere. Light scattered in the region 14 is directed by optical system 15 to detector 16. A rotatable grey wedge is provided in front of one of the detectors and adjusted manually or automatically to bring the light received by each to equality. The position of the wedge is then an indication of the degree of atmosphere turbidity. For calibration a body 18 of known light scattering properties is positioned in the region 14.
