Abstract

1,022,394. Igniters for gas burners. SIDNEY FLAVEL & CO. Ltd., and CONCENTRIC (NON-FERROUS) Ltd. Sept. 29, 1964 [Sept. 30, 1963], No. 37467/63. Heading F4F. An igniting means for a butane gas-air or butane gas burner comprises a pilot burner having a burner head 19 including a lateral orifice 23 which directs gas towards an electric igniting filament 25 partially enclosed by a shroud 28, the lateral orifice 23 being of such a size and location relative to the filament that the subsequent lateral flame is prevented from impinging directly on the filament, and including an axial orifice 22 from which issues gas which is ignited by the lateral flame to produce an axial flame for lighting a main burner. The gas supply to the pilot burner is cut off either manually or automatically when the main burner is alight. An axial air passage may be provided in a filament head 24 which carries the filament 25, to deflect the lateral flame away from the filament. The body 10 of the pilot burner is mounted in a plate 11 and comprises a spigot part 12 receiving a clamping nut 14, and a spigot part 18 receiving the burner head 19. A gas jet 21 is screwed into the body 10, and the gas pipe 15 is connected to the spigot part 18 by a coned union 16 and nut 17.
