Abstract

A solid vulcanizable rubber composition contains 1-aza-3,7-dioxabicyclo [3.3.0] octane or the 5-methyl, 5-ethyl, 5-n-propyl, 5-isopropyl, 5 - methylol, 5 - betahydroxyethyl, 5 - acetoxymethyl or 5-methoxymethyl derivatives together with one of m-aminophenol, m-phenylenediamine, resorcinol monoacetate, resorcinol diacetate, 1,5-naphthalene diol or a partially reacted resorcinol-formaldehyde resin. The two ingredients of the rubber composition react to form a resin. The composition is used to bond textile materials to rubber. Rubbers exemplified are natural rubber, or a mixture of natural rubber with GR-5 (oil-extended), whole tyre reclaim and cis-polybutadiene.ALSO:Textile material, especially tyre cords, is adhered to rubber by incorporating in at least the rubber stock adjacent to the textile material one of 1-azo-3, 7-dioxabicyclo [3.3.0] octane or the 5-methyl, 5-ethyl, 5-n-propyl, 5-iso-propyl, 5-methylol, 5-betahydroxyethyl, 5-acetoxymethyl or 5-methoxymethyl derivatives together with one of m-aminophenol, m-phenylene diamine, resorcinol mono- or diacetate, 1,5- naphthalene diol or a partially reacted resorcinol-formaldehyde resin. The textile material may be cotton, rayon, or nylon and may be pretreated with conventional latex dipping compositions. The whole assembly is cured to effect the adhesion of the textile material to the rubber.
