Abstract

The invention comprises O-acyl derivatives of 1 - hydroxy - 2,2,6,6 - tetrachlorocyclohexane carbonitrile wherein the acyl derivative is that of an aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acid, and a process for their preparation comprising treating 1-hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetrachlorocyclohexane carbonitrile with an appropriate acylating agent. The carboxylic acid may be unsubstituted or substituted, e.g. by halogen atoms. Acids exemplified are acetic, monochloroacetic, trichloroacetic and benzoic acids. The acylation reaction may be achieved by treating the carbonitrile with the appropriate acid, or anhydride or halide thereof, or with an ester of the appropriate acid with a readily volatile alcohol.
