Abstract

102,210. Miller, V. T. April 19, 1916. Razors.-A razor with a guard-plate, which may be detached for stropping the razor or for shaving as with an ordinary razor, comprises two thin metal strips 1, 2, Figs. 2 and 5, pivoted in a handle 17, a bevelled end of the strip 1 entering a dovetailed or undercut part 7 of the strip 2, and ateat 7<a> springing into a depression 6a, when the strips are closed. Projections 5 pass through openings in the blade 11 and enter notches 3. In each strip is a recess with a locking-groove 4, which receives a tongue 15 struck out from the toothed guard-plate 8 and projecting through an opening 9 therein. The guard-plate is resilient, and is shouldered, as shown, and fits against the side and front edge of one of the strips 1, 2; above the shoulder, it is slightly concaved, and it is cut out at 8<b> to facilitato its removal. The blade may be sharpened at both edges, and may have two rows of openings for the projections 5. In a modification. Fig. 10, the guard 8<a> has in its shoulder a hole 9<a> with a ledge-locking 15<a> at the bottom, which seats in one of the grooves 16<a> in locking-teats 4<a> on the holding-strips. These strips are enlarged beyond their pivot and made with notches to accommdate one finger of the operator, a pivoted handle being dispensed with.
