Abstract

1,021,805. Textile treating apparatus. H. FLEISSNER, H. FLEISSNER & G. FLEISSNER [trading as ANSTALT FUER PATENT DIENST]. Aug. 5, 1964 [Aug. 26,1963], No. 31759/64. Heading D1L. Textile materials 6, e.g. fabrics, ribbon or sliver, are treated by feeding the material 6 toward a rotating perforated drum 6 so as to be held under suction thereon in a wavy condition and to be passed in this condition on the drum 9 through a treating medium, e.g. a liquid bath 10. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the material 6 is fed toward the drum 9 by rollers 8 and grippers 1 which reciprocate in the direction of a double arrow 13 to lay the material 6 in a radially wavy or rippled condition on the drum 9 the inside of which is connected to a suction pump. The rollers 8 may be either freely rotatable or driven by the movement of the material 6 by the grippers 1 or may be positively continuously driven. The portion of the drum 9 not covered by the material 6 is covered on the inside by a plate 14. Rollers 12, which may act as squeeze rollers, remove the material 6 from the drum 9 and deposit it on an endless conveyor (not shown). Instead of a single perforated drum 9 the material may be passed successively over several such drums either in the same or different baths. The rollers 8 may rotate at a speed several times, e.g. 5-10 times, as high as the peripheral speed of the drum 9 and if several such drums are employed the material 6 is fed at a proportionate speed to the next drum which may rotate at a lower speed than the preceding drum. In a further embodiment, Fig. 2, the rollers 8 deposit the material 6 in a wavy condition on a conveyor 2 and it is applied to the drum 9 by a slide 11 reciprocating in the direction of the double arrow. In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), a pair of continuously rotated feed rollers 3 are reciprocated in the direction of a double arrow 15 and when moving away from the drum 9 roll back along the material 6 toward the rollers 8 and when moving toward the drum 9 they push the material into waves or ripples. A slide 11, as shown in Fig. 2, may also be provided. In a still further embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the material 6 is fed continuously downwardly by a pair of driven feed rollers 8a and pressed against the drum 9 by at least one reciprocating rod or board 4 with rounded edges to provide the material 6 with waves of a predetermined size. In yet another embodiment, Fig. 5, the rollers 8 convey the material 6 to a continuously rotating star-shaped applicator 5 the edges 17 of which form the desired waves. A perforated conveyor belt 18 moving in the direction of rotation of the drum 9 facilitates removal of the material 6 therefrom and moves with the material to rollers 19, 20 which may serve as squeeze rollers. In a further embodiment, Fig. 6, the feed rollers 8 are mounted closely adjacent the drum 9 and are driven at a considerably higher speed than this drum. The treatment liquid is drawn from the bath 10 into a suction pipe 21 connected to a pump 22, Fig. 7 (not shown) and passed back into the bath through channels 23, 24. The channel 23 is provided with a slot 25 so that the liquid flows over the upper roller 8 to facilitate the formation of denser ripples on the drum 9. A perforated guide plate 26 is mounted in the bath 10 and together with additional plates forms nozzles 27, 28 through which treating liquid is sprayed against the lower roller 8 and the discharge conveyor 29 to prevent adherence of the material 6 thereto. A second similar guide plate may be provided and its position adjusted relative to the plate 26 to adjust the size of the perforations in the plate 26 to adjust the amount of liquid flowing through the nozzles 27, 28 in inverse proportion to the amount passing through the perforations. An additional channel 23<SP>1</SP> to spray the liquid may be provided above the outlet point of the drum 9. A further adjustable guide plate 30 may be provided to conduct the liquid from the channel 24 more strongly either to the feeding mechanism or to the delivery mechanism. Squeeze rollers 31 are provided. In further embodiments (not shown) the suction drum 9 may be star-shaped or provided with suitable compartments or ribs around the periphery thereof.
