A feeding device for a blank 1, Fig. 1, such as a frame member for a window or door, which is to be fed, preferably directly from a planing machine, in its longitudinal direction and thereafter moved transversely relative to its longitudinal direction upon a slide 5 into a milling machine and past the milling heads, comprises a support 3 for one longitudinal edge of the blank, and a support roller 10 for the opposite edge mounted on a horizontal axis and so arranged that when the rear end of the blank moves past the roller, the weight of the blank will cause the blank to turn about its longitudinal axis or parallel thereto and fall down on to the slide. The blank 1 is fed in a longitudinal direction from the planing machine in the direction of the arrow B, Fig. 2 (not shown) by a conveyer roller 16 over a surface 15 and beneath a vertically adjustable pressure roller 13 and over the support roller 10 and the support 3, the blank being laterally guided by a fence 2. The support roller 10 which is driven by a belt 14 from the roller 16 projects slightly above the support 3 and as the rear end of the blank passes the roller it allows that edge of the blank to drop so that blank rotates about its longitudinal axis and falls into the position 9, shown dotted, on the slide 5 of the milling machine. On falling on the slide, the blank operates a contact which releases the slide for movement in the direction of the arrow A. During movement of the slide, the blank engages a pivoted lever which is held fast by a snap device 6 and acts to press the blank against an abutment 4 on the slide until a predetermined force releases the latch to permit the lever to swing out of the way about a pivot 8 and the slide to move past a further guide plate 11 which presses the blank against the slide.
