Abstract
102,144. Quack, C. M. A. Nov. 10, 1915, [Convention date]. Targets.-The target 7, loose on a shaft 4 mounted in bearings 3 at the top of uprights 2, has a tendency to dip to the position shown in Fig. 3 owing to the weight 24 adjustable on a projecting rod 23, but is normally held in the vertical position by the mutual engagement of two catches, one of which is a pallet with a pin 14 pivoted on it at 15, the other being a hook 20 pivoted at 18 on the bearing 3. The hook tends to drop to the position shown in Fig. 3, and the impact enables it to do so by relieving the friction with the pin 14, whereupon the target dips. The target is erected again and the hook is reset to catch the pallet by turning the shaft 4, and therewith a double lever 10, to the position, shown in Fig. 5. while, on the shaft being left inactive, it is turned back by a loaded lever 6 to give the double lever the position shown in Fig. 6, which leaves the hook free to drop on impact. The shaft can be operated from a distance by a cord. The target may also be released by the temporary pressure of an arm 26. By adjusting the weight 24 so that only a very slight impact is required, the apparatus may be employed for the very lightest projectile. A number of such targets are mounted on a common shaft.
