Abstract
1,021,344. Transformers and inductors; fixed resistors; electric coils. BTR INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 7, 1963 [May 7, 1962], No. 17505/62. Headings H1P, HIS and H1T. An electrical device such as a transformer, an inductor or a resistor comprising one or more spirals of non-conducting tape 11 which carries on its surface a plurality of substantially parallel conductors 12 has connections effected between selected conductors to provide two distinct windings by means of a non-conducting key plate 21 carrying on its surface a pattern of conductors 22. Two axially adjacent spirals of tape 17, 18, wound in the same direction upon a core 19 and carried by a frame 20 may have their outer ends divided into two strips terminated in slots 23 and in contact with the key plate conductors. The conductor connections may then be soldered. The join between the two coils at the inner ends is provided by winding both from a single tape and folding this upon itself in two places to provide two right-angled bends. Interlayer insulation may be provided and the key plate, which may have its conductors printed and carry terminals 24, may connect the tape conductors (Fig. 3, not shown) to give a 4: 1 transformer. Different components may be obtained from the same winding arrangement by using different key plates.
