Abstract

1,020,334. Buckle fastenings. KANGOL HELMETS Ltd. Nov. 21, 1963 [April 24, 1963], No. 16190/63. Addition to 942,282. Headings E2A and E2B. In a quick release buckle suitable for joining the ends of a safety seat belt or the like the cooperating parts are so shaped that during the opening and closing operation the outer part 1 pivots about the inner part to give a toggle effect whereby tension on the belt or the like will maintain the two parts more firmly in the closed position, the pivoting movement to open the buckle being resisted by magnetic attraction between the inner part which is made of steel to give additional strength and a permanent magnet 9 carried by the outer part. In the construction shown the member 1 is made of aluminium or aluminium alloy and is provided with a shoulder 2 which co-operates with a hook 11 of the inner part. The part 1 is connected by means of pivots 3 to a link 4 which has a fixed cross member 5 and a knurled cross member 6 which is slidable without rotation in a slot 7; one portion of the belt is passed round the knurled member and when tension is applied to it the knurled member moves to the left so that the belt is gripped between the two cross members. The member 1 also has a locating stud 10 which consists of a self tapping screw threaded into the member 1. The inner member 1 has a hole to receive the stud 10 and a slot 12 to receive another belt portion the slot carrying a member 15 of U section which protects the belt portion against chaffing.
