Abstract

Porcelain-like articles are formed from blastfurnace slag by adding a nucleating agent such as chromic oxide, manganous oxide, calcium fluoride, sodium fluoride, phosphoric acid, and/ or titanium oxide, and a glassifying material such as silica sand, felspar, limestone, magnesite, dolomite, or soda ash so as to give a composition more than 95% which is formed by 40-70% silica, 5-15% alumina, 15-35% lime, 2-12% magnesia, 2-12% sodium oxide, and 0.5-10% nucleating agent, melting the mixture, moulding, and heating to cause crystallization. The mixture is melted at 1300-1400 DEG C., moulded, and then heated to 900-1100 DEG C. and maintained at this temperature for 1-3 hours.
