Abstract

1,019,428. Internal shoe-drum brakes. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. Dec. 21, 1964 [Jan. 1, 1964], No. 108/64. Heading F2E. In an internal shoe-drum brake one (13) of the two shoes 10, 13 has mounted thereon adjacent each end thereof a pivoted triangularshaped plate 19, 21 to which is attached, at a point offset from its pivot 22 and 23 respectively, one end of a tension link 32, 33 the other end of which is attached to the other shoe 10 adjacent the corresponding end thereof, the two pivoted plates 19, 21 having connected between them and attached to them at points offset from their pivots a single-coiled tension spring 34 acting to apply a load tending to turn them about their pivots 22, 23 in a direction to apply tension to the links 32, 33 and thereby pull the two shoes 10, 13 towards each other. The shoe 10 is mounted for limited circumferential movement on a carrier member 11 which is mounted between a shoe expanding device 12 and an abutment member 14, the other shoe 13 being mounted directly upon the shoe expanding device 12 and the abutment member 14 such that thrust can be transmitted from the shoe 10 to the shoe 13 to provide a servo effect on the latter. The shoes 10 and 13 are positioned in a plane parallel to that of the back plate 37 by studs 38, 39 fixedly mounted one in each shoe and having circumferentially grooved heads 42 engaged by forked plates 41 mounted for limited angular movement on the back plate. Mechanical advantage can be provided for the single pull off spring 34 by suitable positioning of the apertures in the pivoted plates 19, 21.
