[Also in Division G2] A lithographic plate comprises a printing surface of flexible aluminium foil supported by a paper sheet, e.g. a waterproof kraft sheet treated with neoprene, the foil and the sheet being bonded together by a layer of a polyolefin, the outer surface of the sheet being coated with a water-impervious layer of plastics material which, for preference, is also a polyolefin. The polyolefin may be polyethylene, polypropylene or polybutylene. The printing surface of the foil may be pre-sensitized, being treated with an alkali zirconium hexahalide, which provides the desired hydrophilic surface, before being coated with a light-sensitive diazo resin. The lithographic surface may be applied to the foil before or after laminating.
