Abstract

1,017,817. Valves; Fluid-pressure brakes. BERG AIRLECTO PRODUCTS CO. Sept. 7, 1962, No. 34384/62. Headings F2F and F2V. A valve for use in a braking system comprises a body having an inlet 5, Fig. 3 (not shown), an outlet 7 to the system and an exhaust 4. A piston valve member 11 is loaded by a spring 20 towards a fixed seat 10 and has a sealing face 18 engageable with the fixed seatorwithamanually actuated seat 34. The valve member 11 has a radial extension 14 such that when the valve engages the fixed seat the inlet pressure acts on equal and opposite areas of the extension and when the seat 34 is moved to close the outlet 7 to the exhaust 4 and connect the inlet 5 to the outlet 7 the inlet pressure acting on the extension and the surfaces 33, 32 of the moving seat holds the valve in this position against the springs 20, 35. The valve is mounted on the dashboard and when the inlet 5 is connected to the outlet 7, the brakes are applied by a known automatic device when the pressure drops below a predetermined value. When the moving seat is withdrawn to connect the outlet 7 to exhaust 4, the brakes will be applied due to the drop in pressure, this valve position constituting the parked position.
