Abstract

1,017,582. Kettles &c. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 15, 1963 [Aug. 21, 1962], No. 32069/62. Headiug A4A. A resilient pad 6, e.g. of rubber, engages the flange 15 of a kettle lid 5, inserted in the filling opening, to press the lid towards the opposite side of the opening to frictionally retain the lid and by restricting the escape of steam in the region of the handle 2 protect the hand of the user. The pad has apertures engaged by lugs on a flange of a bracket 7 which is curved to suit the periphery of the opening and is slotted for passage of a bolt 10 securing the handle 2 to the body 1. The bracket has tongues 16 which conform to the internal shape of the body when the nut is tightened. In modifications the pad extends round the whole circumference of the filling opening, or is mounted on the lid and extends therearound, and the slot is punched in a locally raised part of the bracket.
