Abstract

1,017,157. Reciprocating pumps. L. POTT. April 10, 1964 [Oct. 1, 1963], No. 12778/63. Heading F1A. In a piston-type positive displacement pump an inclined surface 13, Fig. 1, of shaft 10 engages a thrust face 14 of piston extension 15 during the piston delivery stroke whilst cam followers 17 which are free of axial thrust during the delivery stroke are engaged by inclined groove 16 during the inlet stroke. Fluid is drawn in through the inlet connection 19 and passes via passages 21, 22 during the inlet stroke and during the delivery stroke passes through a spring-loaded ball valve 23 to the outlet connection 25. A delivery regulating plate 30 is moved by screw 27 to adjust the axial position of the cylinders and hence the position of the inlet cut-off point when pistons 11 close ports 22. In another embodiment, a crank pin 41, Fig. 2 (not shown), acting through rollers 42 and a circular bearing strap 43, moves pistons 44 on their delivery stroke whilst an extension of strap 43 acting on coupling followers 46, which are free of axial thrust during the delivery stroke, moves the pistons on their inlet stroke. Fluid is drawn in through inlet connection 50 passes via passages 52, 53 into the cylinders. Fluid delivery from the cylinders is through the spring-loaded valves 60, part 54, groove 56, interconnecting passages 55 and through two passages 57 to outlet connection 58. In a modification coupling followers 46 may be detachable forks or all pistons may be actuated by a universally mounted circular coupling.
