Abstract

1,016,969. Electro-photographically producing printing sheets. S. D. WARREN CO. July 7, 1964 [Aug. 7,1963], No. 27993/64. Heading G2H. [Also in Division H1] A lithographic duplicating maater sheet is prepared from an electro-photographic sheet. The base of the sheet which may be Al, plastic foil or paper, is rendered hydrophilic by coating with a mixture of TiO 2 , melamine formaldehyde resin and carboxymethyl-hydroxy-ethyl cellulose. The photo-conductive composition is then applied to the sheet dried, charged, imaged, developed using a resinous toner coloured with pigment and fixed by heating. The non-image areas are removed using methanol, ethanol or isopropanol, thus exposing the hydrophilic surface. Alternatively phosphoric acid and an alcohol with or without a mineral acid may be used to expose the hydrophilic surface.
