Abstract

The invention comprises 17a -aza-D-homo-4-androstene - 3,11,17 - trione and 3,3 - alkylene-dioxy-derivatives thereof wherein the alkylene moiety has 2 or 3 carbon atoms and a process for the preparation thereof which comprises treating adrenosterone 17-oxime with phosphorus pentachloride, acetyl chloride, benzene sulphonyl chloride or p-acetamido-benzene sulphonyl chloride in a basic solvent at room temperature and treating the resultant 17a -aza-D-homo - 4 - androstene - 3,11,17 - trione with ethylene glycol or propylene glycol in the presence of methane-sulphonic acid, benzene sulphonic acid or p-toluenesulphonic acid in an inorganic solvent while heating to obtain the corresponding 3,17-diketal. 3,11-Dioxo-13,17-seco - 5,12 - androstadiene - 17 - nitrile is also produce in the first step of the process.
