Abstract

1,013,450. Blasting. ST. GEORGE'S ENGINEERING Ltd. April 15, 1964 [April 20, 1963], Nos. 15661/63 and 28262/63. Heading B3D. An abrasive blasting machine for the continuous cleaning or descaling of wire or rod has three or more abrasive throwing wheels arranged around the cleaning or descaling chamber at equal or substantially equal angular distances apart, all the wheels being in the same plane so that any given length of the wire or rod is acted on simultaneously by the abrasive from all the wheels; one of the throwing wheels may be substituted by a deflecting device on to which the abrasive from the other wheels falls and is deflected back on to the wire or rod. Wire or rod w pulled through a closed chamber A, Fig. 1, is cleaned by abrasive projected by throwing wheels C<SP>1</SP>, C<SP>2</SP>, C<SP>3</SP>. The wheels may be individually driven by motors D<SP>1</SP>, D<SP>2</SP>, D<SP>3</SP> or through belt or other gearing by a common motor. Spent abrasive passes through an outlet at the bottom of the container into a hopper a and is then returned to a hopper B feeding the wheels through pipes b<SP>1</SP>, b<SP>2</SP>, b<SP>3</SP>. Alternatively, two wheels C<SP>1</SP>, C<SP>2</SP>, Fig. 3, are used in conjunction with a deflecting device E situated below the wire or rod to cause ricochet of abrasive on to the part of the surface not directly in the path of the abrasive projected by the wheels.
