Abstract
Mangano - chromia - manganite complexes of formula XCr2On.2YMnOm in which X=0.5 to 1.5 or from 3.5 to 30, Y=3, n=2, 3 or 6 and m=1, 1.33, 1.5, 2 or 2.5 may be made by reacting a water-soluble manganese salt and a water-soluble chromium compound, e.g. CrO3, in the presence of NH3. The mangano-chromiamanganites preferred have a crystallite size no greater than 1000<\>rA. The complexes can be prepared in other ways, e.g. by making a mixture of salts of Mn and Cr in the desired ratio and in very finely divided form and calcining. Numerous examples of suitable Cr and Mn compounds are given and the examples describe large scale preparations of the complexes. Specifications 657,154, 701,243 and U.S.A. Specification 1,964,001 are referred to.ALSO:The invention comprises catalysts consisting of (1) mangano-chromia-manganites of formula XCr2On.2YMnOm wherein X has a value from 0,5-1,5 or from 3,5-30, Y=3, n=2, 3 or 6 and m is 1, 1,33, 1,5, 2 or 2,5; and (2) mangano-chromia-manganites of the same general formula in which X=0,5-30 in combination with at least one interspersant, the latter being defined as a refractory material the function of which is to keep the crystallites of catalyst and cocatalyst separated. Preferred size of the interspersant is less than 50 and melting point above 1600 DEG C. Examples of interspersant are Al2O3, Al(OH)3, TiO2, ThO2, CeO2, Cr2O3, MgO, CaO, Ca(OH)2, Ba(OH)2, BaO, SrO, ZnO, MnO2, SiO2, BeO, ZrO2, LaO2, HfO2, BaCrO4, CaCrO4, chrome oxides, CaSiO3, BaSiO3, and MgAl2O4. As cocatalysts there may be used chromites of Cu, Ni, Fe, Zn, Cd, Co, Sn or Bi. Additionally the catalysts may contain CuO, NiO, Fe2O3, ZnO, CdO, SnO2, Bi2O3 and MnO or MnO2. Examples are given.
