Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:1012492/C2/1> where R represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R1 represents an alkyl group having not more than five carbon atoms and X represents a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl group, and the preparation thereof by the catalystic hydrogenation of compounds of the general formula <FORM:1012492/C2/2> where a double bond exists between the 6-position and an adjacent position thereto. As catalysts there may be used platinum, palladium or nickel catalysts, for example in an inert solvent medium. The reaction is generally carried out at between 15 DEG C. and 30 DEG C. under atmospheric pressure. The 6-alkylmorphinans form acid addition salts.
