Abstract

Plant pots or the like which disintegrate in the soil are formed from a composition comprising particles of a water-absorbent resilient synthetic material and non-resilient organic or mineral material and a binder. The resilient material may be natural or synthetic rubber, polyurethane, or viscose foam. The non-resilient material may be polystyrene foam, vermiculite, perlite, or pumice. The binder may be natural or synthetic rubber latex or insolubilized casein glue. The composition may also comprise an ion exchange resin in which is absorbed a solution of a fertilizer, spent coffee grounds, terra-cotta, earthenware, or sodium alkyl aryl polyoxyethylene sulphate. The composition may be moulded into a block having a cavity or groove. The cavity may be filled with natural sponge, formaldehyde-urea or viscoso foam, peat, earth, vermiculite, perlite, or pumice. The pots may be sprinkled with or partially immersed in a solution of a fertilizer.
