Abstract
1,011,859. Discharge lamps. MAX-PLANCK - GESELLSCHAFT ZUR FÍRDERUNG DER WISSENSCHAFTEN E.V. July 6, 1962 [July 11, 1961], No. 26068/62. Heading HID. A spectroscopic light source for the vacuum ultra-violet has two spark electrodes 4, 5, which may be water-cooled, in an evacuable chamber 1 and a movable ignition electrode 8 adjacent to one spark electrode and adapted to be deflected to contact the electrode. The deflection may be by an electromagnet 12 acting upon the steel bar 9. Insulating cylinders 6, 7 serve to screen the outlet gaps of the source from the continuous radiation emitted from the electrode surfaces, the observed emission line being from, e.g., C<SP>4+</SP>, O<SP>6+</SP> and Si<SP>5+</SP> from the insulators.
