Abstract

1,010,664. Pipe couplings; joint-making packing. AKERS STYCKEBRUK A.B. May 9, 1962 [May 10, 1961], No. 17794/62. Headings F2B and F2G. A sealing coupling for hollow elements such as two pipes, comprises a resilient sleeve 10 having an inwardly extending annular stop flange 32 which in cross-section tapers inwardly to form a truncated cone for radially centering the pipes on assembly and end flanges 12, 14. Each end flange includes a resilient tubular member 18 extending generally towards the stop flange for sealing engagement with one of the pipes. A connecting member 16 supports each tubular member 18 within and spaced from the sleeve 10 so as to permit sealing and coupling of pipes of different diameters. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the sealing coupling is encased in a slave member 20 of a metal, glass fibre or synthetic resin. Sleeve 20 is provided with an anti-corrosion layer 24 of e.g. rubber. " Jubilee " (Registered Trade Mark) or other clips may embrace the flanges to increase the pressure exerted on the hollow elements to be coupled.
