Abstract

1,010,004. Valves; bolts secured against loss; bolting. DRESSER INDUSTRIES Inc. Jan. 31, 1964, No. 4168/64. Headings F2H and F2V. [Also in Division F1] In a suction or discharge valve assembly 22 situated at circumferentially spaced intervals around the wall at each end of the cylinder of a doubleacting reciprocating piston compressor (see Division F1), a circular seat member 23 secured to a stop plate 24 by bolts 25 has a central port 35 surrounded by at least one ring of circumferentially spaced ports 35 each obturated by a metal or nylon closure 36 displaceable, against compression springs 49, into tubular members 39 of stop plate 24, to abut faces 40 thereof, whereby fluid flows between web elements 41 circumferentially spaced around and joining adjacent members 39. The stop plates 24 comprising tubular members 39, webs 41 and outer ring portion 38 are integrally formed by casting and the internal faces 44 of the web 41 form closure guide surfaces. The closures 36 comprise flat circular plates with downturned annular guide flanges 36<SP>1</SP> and spring locating beads 36<SP>11</SP>. The bolts 25 each comprise a threaded end portion 58 with a reduced shank which may be stepped as shown. They are screwed into internal threaded portion 51 or 54 of seat member 23 or stop plate 24, depending on the use of the assembly as a discharge or suction valve assembly and because of the shank reduction and spaced threaded portions 51, 54 are captive if loosened inadvertently.
