Abstract

1,009,698. Knitting machines. SDRUZEN PODNIKU TEXTILNIHO STROJIRENSTVI. Aug. 13, 1962 [Aug. 28, 1961], No. 30902/62. Heading D1C. A superposed cylinder knitting machine, for producing striped articles, comprises yarn feeders 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 pivoted to levers 16,17,18,19, 20 of different lengths pivoted on a vertical common axle 33 about which they move horizontally, the thread feeders being moved vertically by engagement with the guide slots 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 of a pattern plate 26 in which they slide and the levers being operated directly by cam plates 62, 66, 70, 74, 78 of the selector mechanism having ratchet wheels engaged by ratchet pawls carried on a reciprocatable ratchet frame 84, severing and clamping mechanism being provided adjacent the feeder eyes in their rest position. As shown, the feeders 1-5 are adjustably sucured to rods 12 which pass through the slots in plate 26 and are pivoted to levers 16-20 being biased by springs 31. On vertically adjustable bolt 33, in addition to spring biased levers 16-20, are a quality control lever 32 and levers 35 for controlling the trapping and severing mechanism. Levers 16-20 and 32 carry adjustable dogs 39 which engage cams 62, 66, 70,74, 78 and 57. Levers 35 each carry an adjustable dog 46 of such width that it engages two adjacent cams of the selector mechanism. The selector mechanism comprises units I, II, III, IV, V and VI mounted on a pin 49 non-rotatably located in sleeves 51, 52. Unit I, which controls the quality of the fabric, comprises a ratchet 56 with six equally spaced teeth 60 and cam 57. Unit II for feeder 1, which feeds rubber yarn, comprises a ratchet 61 with six equally spaced teeth 63. Units III to VI comprise respectively cams 66, 70, 74, 78 secured to pairs of ratchets 64, 65; 68, 69; 72, 73; 76, 77, each having three equally spaced teeth 67, 67a; 71, 71a; 75, 75a; 79, 79a. These teeth are off-set with respect to one another so that there are six equally spaced teeth to each pair of ratchets. Pawl frame 84 is swingably mounted on sleeves 51, 52 and has a pin 85 carrying pawls 86- 95 spring-biased into engagement with the ratchets. Parallel to pins 49, 85 is manually axially movable selector 97 having notches 98-105 of the same depth but of different widths and are engaged by extensions 106, 115 of pawls 86-95 which are of different thicknesses. Selector 97 is displaced by lugs on a pattern chain acting through rod 123. Frame 84 swings regularly through 65 degrees. Each feeder has a trapping and severing mechanism comprises a lever 160 carrying a pin 161 which engages a knife 162 between plates 163, 164 which act respectively as a scissors jaw and a yarn trapper. An inclined surface 165 on each knife 162 directs the yarn into a notch 166 under the cutting edge of the knife. Levers 160 are pivoted on a common pin 167 and are engaged by spring-biased rods 171 against the action of which they are lowered by Bowden wires 175 connected to levers 35. In operation to bring feeder 2 into operation, a link on the pattern chain moves selector 97 axially to the position, Fig. 11, where extensions 106, 109, 110, 113 and 115 of pawls 86, 89, 90, 93 and 95 engage notches 98, 100, 101, 103, 105 of selector 97 and are then in position to engage ratchets 56, 65, 68, 73 and 77 at position Z, Fig. 7, so that teeth 60 and 67a of ratchets 56 and 65 are engaged and rotated by movement of frame 64 to rotate cams 57 and 66. Lever 17 is pivoted by cam 66 so that the feeder is moved horizontally, vertical movement being caused by the slot 22 of plate 26. When the feeder reaches insertion point P 1 , the yarn release is operated through cable 175 by lever 35 after which the feeder moves to knitting position P 2 . Cam 57 controls the quality of the fabric.
